Mates Choose Dates co-founder Toby David always struggled with online dating and wanted to create a new, casual speed dating service for younger people that moved them away from modern, mobile-centric dating apps. The premise is that you and your mate go on a double speed date, meet some new people, make some friends and maybe, find someone. The brand needed to be casual, fun and youthful without being cheesy.
With long-standing competitors like, standard dating nights and more contemporary rivals like Tinder and Bumble, the art-style needed to stand out. I developed a duo-tone colour scheme with a stacked logo to work with the main promotion channels (Facebook and Instagram). To help grab attention, I used print and web posters that parodied current brands, like Ben & Jerry and Pringles, to promote the event. An infographic was also created to explain and promote the event to newcomers. During the event, T-shirts, table toppers and ‘Wild & Mild’ cards were created to ensure guests felt welcomed, and to fill in any awkward lulls in conversation.
